Egyptian inspired winged scarab pendant with Turquoise gemstone.
This piece started with a little beetle cast out of brass. I was inspired by the ancient Egyptian winged scarab representing rebirth and renewal.
I first made a cartouche shaped setting with deep sides to protect the casting. The wings were hand cut out of sheet silver and then stamped to create the feather pattern. I then set a juicy blue turquoise on top.
For a visual effect, I pen plated 18K on the inside of the cartouche and the beetle. This gives it a nice warm golden tone on the inside of the setting.
The pendant is about 2-1/8" in height (55mm) and 2-1/4" wide (56mm). It comes on a 20" silver wheat chain with lobster clasp.
